The fact is productivity isn’t everyone’s strongest trait.
That’s why many of us seek techniques to be better at spending our time.

Tip#1: Perceive Work as a Series of Sprints Rather Than a Marathon
Most people we know like exhausting themselves.
They work nonstop until they finish their list.
However, these people often work half-distracted and half-burning out.
They may accomplish the job but not quite with flying colors.
When you run a sprint, you run for short periods of time with a clear resting point.
This is how you should approach work.
Instead of doing it endlessly, focus for a certain period of time and allocate some for a break.
This is what others call the Pomodoro Technique — work for the next 25 minutes undisturbed and take the next 5 minutes off.
By off we mean completely disconnecting yourself from work.
Tip#2: Prepare for Tomorrow, Today
Let’s face it: We’re all guilty of counting down until we clock out.
The next thing we do is to pull away from everything, head to the nearest pub and order a pint.
Sure, you deserve to unwind after a long day.
However, failure to prepare yourself tomorrow could mean setting yourself up for stress.
Allocate some time to warm yourself up for tomorrow.
It could be listing down your future tasks.
It could mean knowing what to wear for work tomorrow.
It could also mean setting the alarm on your coffee maker. 25 minutes of preparation will help you wake up with a fresher, more focused mind.
Once you’re done, you can have that pint guilt-free.
Tip#3: Rely on Automation and Templates
Technology isn’t just here to distract you.
It can do wonders to help you remain focused and productive.
Case in point, using templates and automation.
Whether you’re trying to come up with a report or a presentation, templates save you time and help you think quicker.
Automation can also cut back on the time you spend manually answering emails and calls as well as posting updates on your social media account.
Don’t make it hard on yourself. Live by these two principles and you can focus your time and energy on other things.
Tip#4: Dedicate a Shorter Time for Harder Tasks
Our natural tendency is to spend so much time on our most dreaded task.
We stretch out the minutes and hours into trying to accomplish this task.
The result? Our stressed selves wasting so much time, effort and energy.
The next time you have a hard task at hand, work in it for a shorter time.
This heightens your alertness and improves your focus.
This also allows you to completely stay away from distractions.
Set up fake deadlines and shorten time limits. You’d be thankful you did.
